Based on your reading of John Updikes “A&P” develop a full 3 page essay that details two plot elements that Updike used. Be sure to include how and why the techniques work and use examples from the reading to support your position.

2nd Short Critical Paper Due March 3
In a 3-5 page essay discuss specifically the types of narrative techniques that each of the three authors use Cite specifically from the readings.

Select any of the stories read this semester and discuss in detail the following literary techniques:
Theme
Setting

Literary Research Paper  Due March 31

Based on Othello:

1. In a 5-7 page essay discuss in detail the implications of prejudice in the play Othello.  Consider how prejudice played a role in the destruction of Othello and Desdemona’s marriage.  Why was it easy for Othello to believe Iago? Use specific examples from the text and at least one outside source that demonstrates at least one other interracial relationship that was plagued by prejudice.  Essay must include a separate Works Cited page, properly documented in MLA formatting.

OR

2. In a 5-7 page essay discuss in detail and compare Othello’s rise to power and that of President Obama, both of whom are challenged by those who wish them to fail—What are the challenges of both of these men? Use specific examples from the text and at least two outside sources to support your claims.  Essay must include a Works Cited page, properly documented in MLA formatting.

    Good Morning Professor Hill,
    The informational print out for plot elements really helped me navigate my way through the John Updike piece A&P. To that end, connotative and denotative which are the ideas or concepts a word suggests in addition to its literal definition and the literal or dictionary meaning of a word or phrase, where two ideas I look forward to using within my efforts at understanding the play Othello.
